We had a lot of fun in both Zebra English classes last week!
In the elementary school class, we learned about the weather, and played weather games too! Afterwards, Yoshifumi and Konomi both wrote on paper "It's hot", "It's cold", "It's windy", "It's rainy", and "It's snowy". They had beautiful writing! Well done!
In the adult class, we played a small game. In this game we had to remember and say the fruit that the players mentioned before, and then add one more fruit. We managed 19 kinds of fruit! We also talked about how we can stay cool this summer without using air conditioning.
It's always fun at Zebra, come along and join in!

バナナ、りんご、オレンジ、パイナップル...
先週のレッスンは、小学生クラスと大人クラスともにとても楽しい時間を過ごしました。
小学生クラスでは、お天気について勉強してゲームでも遊びました。その後に、よしふみ君とこのみちゃんと一緒に「暑い」「寒い」「風が強い」「雨です」「雪です」と英語で書きました。二人ともとても上手に書けましたよ！
大人クラスでも簡単なゲームをしました。
このゲームは、一回挙げたフルーツを覚えていきながら一つずつ新たなフルーツを加えて言っていくゲームです。なんとか19種類のフルーツまでつなげることが出来ましたよ！また、今年の夏をエアコンを使用しないでどのように涼しく過ごすかについても話しました。
ゼブラではいつも楽しく勉強しています。みなさんも是非参加してみませんか！

This is Peter writing! I will sometimes share a story or write about my experiences in Japan on the Zebra Blog.
Last Saturday I went to the school sports day. This was the first time that I had seen a Japanese high school sports day, so it was very interesting to see the games. In England the events are all very traditional, such as running, high jump, volleyball, javelin, hurdles, etc. But in Japan, the games look so much fun! I saw a tug-of-war, group skipping, and lots more. I saw a lot of happy faces too.
I wish my school sports days were like Seritsu!

＜ピーター日本日記　１＞　　成立体育祭
こんにちはピーターです！これからこのゼブラのブログで私が日本で体験したことの感想をその都度、皆さんにご紹介したり、綴ったりしていきます。どうぞよろしく。
先週の土曜日に成立学園の体育祭に行ってきました。私が日本の高校の体育祭を見るのはこれが初めてのことなので、とても興味深く競技を見ていました。イギリスでの競技大会はとても伝統的なものばかりで、例えば、徒競走や高跳び、バレーボール、やり投げ、障害物競走といったようなものです。でも、日本の競技大会はとっても楽しそうなものばっかりですね！綱引きや大縄、いろんな競技を見ました。会場にはたくさんの楽しそうな顔であふれていました。
私の卒業した学校の競技大会も成立の体育祭みたいだったらいいのにな！

Last Friday at Zebra adults English Club we talked about food. What food is famous where you come from? Junko-san is from Yamanashi, so she told me about Hoto (boiled udon noodles in miso) and mountain vegetables. Makise Sensei is from Saitama. He said that, because there are a lot of farms in Saitama, there is also a lot of food!
I am from the southwest of England. cream teas are very popular there. This is a scone with jam and thick cream on top, and is eaten with a cup of milk tea. Tasty!
I was very hungry after this class!

外国の食べ物

先週金曜日のゼブラ一般（大人）コースでは食べ物についての話しをしました。出身地の名産は何ですか、と聞いてみました。ジュンコさんは山梨出身なので、ほうとう（味噌煮込みうどん）と山菜のことを話ししてくれました。一方のマキセ先生は埼玉出身ということで、埼玉にはたくさん農場があるので、その分たくさんの食物が獲れます！といっていました。
私はイギリスの南西部の出身なのですが、地元ではクリーム・ティーというのが有名です。これはジャムや濃厚なクリームを乗せたスコーンと一緒にミルクティーでいただくんですよ。これが美味いんだ！
レッスンが終わったら無性にお腹が空いてきましたよ！

We had a great adult class at Zebra last Friday.
Junko-san told us about her holiday to Europe with her daughter. She went to Norway, Sweden and Denmark. She said that everyone was very friendly and helped them when they got lost. She also said that they spoke very good English, and Junko-san could talk to them in English too!
Makise Sensei also talked about the internet. We talked about popular social networking and news websites. A lot of Japanese people use Twitter and Facebook these days, but they still use Mixi and Ameba too.
I look forward to seeing you again this week. Remember, Adult classes are on Friday at 6:30!

お休みのときのエイカイワ！

先週金曜日のゼブラ英会話クラブの大人コースはなかなかのものでした。
ジュンコさんはお休みをとって娘さんとヨーロッパに行ったときの話をしてくれました。行ったのはノルウェー、スウェーデン、そしてデンマークでした。彼女が言うには誰もが親切で、道に迷ったときにも助けてくれたそうです。また、北欧の方はみな英語が上手に喋れるとも言っていましたが、そういうジュンコさんも英語で話していたわけでしょ！
一方でマキセ先生はインターネットの話をしてくれました。私たちは人気のあるソーシャル・ネットワークやニュースサイトのことについて話しました。最近では多くの日本人もツイッターやフェイスブックを利用する一方で、依然ミクシィやアメーバブログも利用されています。
また今週も皆さんにお会いできるのを楽しみにしていますよ。おっと、大人コースは金曜日の6時半からですからね、お忘れなく！

Last week at Zebra Yoshifumi and Konomi had a race to speak English the fastest. They were both very quick!
In class we were counting and describing things in our workbooks. Yoshifumi counted '8 orange peaches' and Konomi counted '6 brown hamburgers'.
After that we played a fun game. I tried to trick them by calling out a part of the body to touch, but touching a different part of the body. But Yoshifumi and Konomi were very clever!

すばやく、おりこうに!
先週のゼブラではよしふみ君とこのみちゃんとでどっちがはやく英語を喋れるか競争しました。結果は二人とも早かったです！
レッスンでは、テキストのなかに描かれているものの数を数えました。よしふみ君は黄桃を８つ、このみちゃんは６個の茶色いハンバーガーを英語で数えました。
レッスンのあとはお楽しみのゲームです。自分の身体の場所を触るように指示するゲームですが、わざと意地悪をして私が声に出す部分と違う場所を触ります。それでもよしふみ君とこのみちゃんはだまされませんでした。手強いな！
それではまた金曜日にゼブラでお会いしましょう！

Last week at Zebra, Richard Sensei came back to teach a special class! We practiced our introductions and said what our name is and how old we are, very quickly!
Next, we talked about food, and looked in our workbooks. We saw pancakes, hamburgers, pasta, grapes and peaches. They all looked very tasty!
After this, we all sang the English song "head, shoulders knees and toes", and did actions too. We had to point to our head, and then shoulders, then our knees and our toes.
At the end of class, Yoshifumi and Konomi both drew an aeroplane, a bus and a car on a world map, and then told us what they were in English.

先週のゼブラはリチャード先生が戻ってきてのスペシャル授業でした！最初にみんなで自己紹介の練習をしたので、とても短い時間で英語で名前と歳をリチャード先生に言えました。
次に食べ物の話しをしてから、ワークブックに入りました。そこにはホットケーキやハンバーガー、スパゲッティ、ぶどう、桃がありました。どれもとてもおいしそうでしたよ！
そのあとで、みんなで"Head, Shoulders Knees and Toes"という英語の歌を振りを付けて歌いました。参加している人は歌に合わせて頭を触り、次に肩を触り、膝とつま先に触れないといけません。
最後によしふみ君、このみちゃんの二人が世界地図に飛行機とバスと車を描いてもらって、それらを英語で言ってもらいました。

Last week's Zebra was very fun! Yoshifumi and Konomi impressed me when they showed me that they knew the days of the week in English, and the entire English alphabet! Then we had lots of fun learning about animals in English too. Yoshifumi said that he likes elephants because they are big and grey. Konomi said that she doesn't like snakes because they are scary. I think snakes are scary too!
To end the class, we played a game called 'Simon Says'. We must run and jump and hop and skip and crawl; but only when I say 'please'! Yoshifumi and Konomi said they enjoyed it very much.
This week Zebra has no class because of Showa Day, but I can't wait to see everyone again on May 6th!

はやく、はやく！　ゆっくり、ゆっくり！

先週のゼブラ英会話クラブはめちゃめちゃ楽しかった！まずは、よしふみくんとこのみちゃんが英語で一週間の曜日を言えたうえに、アルファベットで知っていたことにびっくりしました。それから英語で動物のことを覚えたのも面白かったです。よしふみくんは灰色の大きな身体をしているからゾウが好きなのだそうです。このみちゃんはおそろしい感じがするのでヘビがきらいだそうです。僕もヘビはこわいですね！
最後に"サイモン・セッズ"というゲームをしました。私が"プリーズ！"といったときにだけ、指示通りに走ったり、ジャンプしたり、はねたり、スキップしたり四つん這いになったりしなければなりません。二人にどうだった？って聞いたらとっても面白かったといっていました。
今週のゼブラ英会話クラブは「昭和の日」のためお休みです。でも5月6日にみんなに会えるのが待ちきれないですね！

Last Friday we had a really fun time at Zebra English club! In the Elementary class, I asked Konomi and Yoshifumi whether they knew where I lived, and they replied I come from England. They were right! The next thing we did was try to find England on the map of the world and we had lots of fun finding other countries too.
Then we looked at food in our workbooks, and talked about what we like and don't like. At the end we played Uno, using only English! Well done Everyone!
I wonder what fun we can have this Friday?

先週の金曜日のゼブラ英会話クラブはホントに楽しかったですよ！小学生クラスではこのみちゃんとよしふみくんに私の出身地を尋ねたのですが、二人とも私がイギリス人だと当ててくれました。ご名答！次に三人でイギリスがどこにあるのか世界地図で捜したのですが、捜しているといろんな国を見つけちゃってとても面白かったです。
それからテキストに食べ物が出ていたので、お互いに好きな食べ物、嫌いな食べ物について話しました。最後に日本語禁止でウノをして楽しみました。英語だけ！でやってみましたがみんなとても上手にウノができましたよ！
さてさて、今週の金曜日は何をして楽しみましょうか？

Hello everyone, my name is Peter Williams and I'm the new International Department teacher for Seiritsu. I come from England and graduated with a BA in Design and Illustration. I will be teaching the International Department Classes for High Level English and Japanese Geography.
Throughout Seiritsu School I will also be performing a number of other roles, which include teaching at the Seiritsu Kindergarten, the Zebra Community English Conversation class and helping with the school's English Conversation Club. I am also an ALT for both Junior High School and High School English classes as well as assisting with the School Karate club. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone!
Last Week I taught my first Zebra English Class but I wasn't the only new person who was there, we had two new students too! Yoshifumi joined Konomi in the Elementary Class, and Makise Sensei joined the Adult Class. Yoshifumi graduated from Seiritsu Kindergarten last year, and Makise Sensei works in the Seiritsu school office. In the Adult class we talked and learned about each other, discussing why we want to speak English. Makise Sensei said it was because he wants to stay in contact with friends and read more international news on the internet! We also learned a new idiom, "apple-polishing", which is the same as "gomasuri". We are looking forward to seeing everyone again this week!

みなさん、はじめまして。私はピーター・ウィリアムスといいます。このたび成立学園の国際教育部の一員として採用されました。私の生まれは英国で、大学ではデザインとイラストを学びました。国際教育部では留学生にハイレベル英語と日本の地理を教えることになっています。
幼稚園や成立ゼブラ英会話クラブ、英会話部などを含めると、成立学園全体の中での私の仕事は多岐にわたっています。そして勿論、中学、高校のALTとしての役割もあり、空手道部のアシスタントもします。早く皆さんにお会いしたい気持ちでいっぱいです！
さて先週、初めてのゼブラ英会話クラブでのレッスンがありましたが、そこでの新人は私だけではありませんでした。新しくゼブラ英会話クラブに二人の方が加わったのです！コノミちゃんが在籍している小学生クラスにはヨシフミくんが加わり、大人クラスにはマキセさんが加わりました。ヨシフミくんはこの春に成立幼稚園を卒業したばかりです。マキセさんは成立学園の職員の方です。大人クラスではお互いに自己紹介をして、"なぜ英会話を学ぶのか"を語り合いました。マキセさんはインターネットを通じて世界中の人とコンタクトをとったり、国際ニュースをもっと読めるようになりたくて英会話をやりたいのだと言っていました。
さて、今回のレッスンでとりあげたイディオムは"apple-polishing"です。これは日本語でいう"ゴマすり"ということです。
