Soccer/Football vocabulary

Hello everyone,
Last week I shared some vocabulary for basketball words. Our school teams have been winning so it was a good lead in. This week I will be sharing soccer words. One of the reasons is because one of our alumni (OB) from Australia, Connor O'Toole, played with the Australian U23 team and they qualified for the Olympics. We hope to see Connor in Tokyo in the summer!

We know many of you will want to watch some soccer during the Olympics so here are a few words you will need to know:

To score a goal (ゴールを決める）
Counterattack　（逆襲ーぎゃくしゅう）
Foul (ファール）
First half (前半）
Linesmen (線審)

ノースカップ！

１月２６日(日)成立中学男・女バスケットボールチームが北区で開催の「ノースカップ」に出場し、男子は決勝で十条富士見中に負けはしましたが、下級生チームでの準優勝は見事でした！一方、女子は、決勝でも圧勝し見事に初優勝することが出来ました(^^)v 1/28(k.h)

金曜todayを楽しみにしてくれている方、すみません・・・
先週は金曜todayを抜かしてしまいました。やっちまったー

先週、女子サッカー部のＯＢで吉備国際大学に進学した選手がグランドに顔を出してくれました。個別でお土産くれました。ありがとー

Vocabulary for basketball

Hello everyone,

I hope you are staying warm. Did you know that that is part of how basketball got started? Trying to stay warm... interesting, isn't it?

With the Olympics coming to Tokyo this year, I figured we should introduce sports terms in English for our members. Since the Seiritsu high school basketball team won their Tokyo tournament, I decided to start with basketball.

Here are a few phrases you might hear at the basketball games: hoop, possession, rebound, and technical foul. Can you guess what they are in Japanese?

新人戦初優勝！

１月５日～１月１９日で開催された「東京都高等学校男子バスケットボール新人戦本大会」で、１/１９(日)の決勝戦で國學院久我山に８９：７６で勝利し、令和での最初の新人戦を優勝で飾ることが出来ました(^^)v　
　ゼブラの選手や保護者の皆様の熱いご声援に、選手達もいつも以上に頑張ることが出来ました。本当にありがとうございましたm(__)m
　新人関東大会が２/８～２/９山梨県甲府市で開催されます。今後ともご声援の程宜しくお願いいたします。1/21(k.h)

サイズ感

レッスン帰りに寄ったお花屋さんで見つけて、思わず買ってしまった大きなユズ。
みかんと比べるとその大きさがわかるかと思います。
香りもサイズに劣らず素晴らしいです。

さて、どうやって使い切ろうかな。

Japanese/American New Year

In a junior high school class, students were asked to make a short presentation about what their families do for the New Year holiday. Teachers were also asked to do this. When I made the presentation I realized that my family has a very mixed Japanese and American New Year. We eat osechi of course, but we also eat American holiday foods like mashed potatoes and stuffing. We stay up for midnight, but we do countdown for the last 10 seconds, yell "Happy New Year" and give each other a hug. Also, we don't go to a temple for hatsumode, we go to New Year service at a church. Having a celebration that respects both cultures in a family keeps us happy. How does your family celebrate the New Year holiday?
