JC's fun day at a sumo exhibit
I am a huge fan of sumo. Recently I went to see a sumo exhibit that displayed all kinds of sumo related clothing, tools and so on related to the tradition of sumo's centuries long history.
Here is the top-knot of the well-known ozeki (the 2nd highest rank in sumo) Chiyotaikai. Wrestlers' top-knots are cut off at special retirement ceremonies a symbol of them leaving the sumo world.
One of my favorite exhibits was of famous wrestlers' kesho-mawashi (decorative aprons). They had several from many famous wrestlers (wrestlers are called rikishi) from recent history. So colorful!
There was also a large pile of salt to show how much salt is thrown by rikishi into the ring every day of the tournament - 45 kilograms!
These are only a few example of all the interesting and colorful displays I saw. If you haven't learned much about sumo, I highly recommend you learn and watch more about this sport now and through history.
