After school (Part 2): Arts and crafts

Hello everyone,

The weather is nice, isn't it?
Last week I was writing about having your kids join in sports. This week, let's talk about what to do if your child doesn't really like sports or shows interest towards the fine arts. If this is the case, you may need to look at some other options. Acting classes are a wonderful form of creative exercise. It also provides the child with ample opportunity to develop his social skills. Music, art or dance can help your child to keep himself busy and entertained. (I am using him/his but of course it can be a girl, too.)

In case the child is not interested in any of the above, you may want him to join a Boy Scouts club or other community oriented clubs that take up social work. Cleaning a park, putting on a show, helping out in an old age home are various activities that may pique* your child's interest.

Crafts are often interesting to children. There are not many classes out there right now for crafts but you can certainly do some at home. It takes a little preparation for you and it makes a small mess at home but it is a great way to help build creativity and focus in your kids.

Whatever form of activity you choose, make sure that you monitor your child's activity. They want you to know about them and it gives you a chance to communicate together. Anything that increases your child's self-esteem is good.

I will talk about things to avoid next time!
Enjoy the fall weather!
