Hatsu no hatsu

The January sumo tournament is called Hatsu basho because it is the first tournament of the year. When a sumo wrestlers wins his first championship it is called a Hatsu yusho. For several years in a row now, a wrestler has won his first yusho in the first tournament, making it a Hatsu basho Hatsu yusho. This Hatsu basho's winner was Daieisho, a short thruster power house from Saitama. This is the first time a Saitama native has won the championship as well - Saitama pride!
