Scavenger Hunts

Hello!

With the nicer weather, it is time to send the kids outside!

Try creating a scavenger hunt. It can be done by one child or several children or even a whole class.

The typical way to do it is:
a) Make a list of items for your children/students to find.
b) Arrange to finish or meet them at a place at a later time (for example, 30-45 minutes later).

They can bring the items or take pictures of the items. You can choose.

甘めが好きです

卵焼き、玉子焼きは関東、関西で味付けが違う。

関東のものは砂糖が入り甘めであり焦げ目が付く。関西は出汁が入るけど甘めにはしない。
父親が甘いのが好みでなかったので、母が作るものは関東風の焼き方ではあったものの、砂糖ははいらなかった。
その反動なのか料理をするようになってからは、甘めの味付けをするようになりました。

これはカニカマが入っており、焦げ目は付かないもの。

牛肉の自販機が上野駅にありましたよ～(^^♪ 実に面白い！値段が若干高い感じがしますが、今度買ってみようと思っていますので、その際は"Zebra Today"でお知らせいたします。

ほんの少し意識して

今日は、植物学の日。

朝ドラ「らんまん」のモデルとなった「日本の植物学の父」と呼ばれる牧野富太郎博士の生誕日が、4月24日。そんなことから植物学の日となりました。

世の中に雑草なんてものはなくて、全ての植物には名前が付いています。今日ぐらいは何となく眺めている草花を少し探求心を持って眺めてみましょう。えーと裸子植物って何だっけ？

Eye Spy

Hello everyone,

Here is the first outdoor activity we will share in this series. It can be done anywhere, in a car, in a park, in a shopping center. Anywhere.

One person finds an object and then gives a hint about it.
The English phrase is normally "I spy something ~" but it is easier and more useful for English learners to say something like: "I see a ~." If you do it with hints so the other person has to guess what you looked at, they can say: "I see a (blue/red/big/small) [plant/animal/toy/building/etc]." For example:
I see a blue building.
I see a red plant.
I see a small animal.

The other person has to point at or say the item the hint giver is giving the hint about.

Please give this a try the next time you are out somewhere. Tell them your phone is dead or the wire won't connect to play their game or whatever they usually use.

夏日が続きます

気象庁によりますと、最高気温が35℃以上の日を猛暑日、30℃以上の日を真夏日、25℃以上の日を夏日と言います。

東十条、本日の最高気温は26度、明日も明後日も25度と「夏日」が続きます。ただ日曜日以降は20度を下回り雨も降るようです。そして怒涛のGWに入るのですから時間の流れは早いものです。

冷たいコーラでもどうぞ。

近所を散歩していたら見事な"藤の花"を見かけました！よく手入れされていて綺麗だったので、失礼ながら写真を撮らせて頂きました。この時期は、色々な花が次々と咲きだして気持ちがいいですね(^^♪　

雹

「ひょう」と読みます。

昨日夕方歩いていたら突然の雷に驚いていると「ぱらぱら」というよりは「バラバラっ」と雨が降り、続いて「バラバラバラバラ」とひょうが降ってまいりました。都心でひょうが観測されるのは9年ぶりなのだとか。思いもよらないこと、想定外はいつでもどこでも発生します。

Outdoors English

Welcome to the new school year.
Last academic year, we wrote a few times about things like online activities and Internet security and so on. But with spring in the air we wanted to also write a few blog post about being outdoors.
Some kids prefer to spend time outside.

There are many ways to add English into their fun time there as well.

風がとても強いです。こんな日は花粉がえらい勢いで飛んでまいります。

多少スギ花粉は落ち着いてきたというか、耐性が付いてきたのですが、ヒノキ花粉が猛威を振るっております。

そしてついに黄砂も午後から飛来してくるとのこと。ご用心ください。
