January is for Janus
Where does the name of January come from? It is "the month of Janus" the Roman god of beginnings and endings. Janus also is the good of doors and gates--perfect for the beginning of the year. Janus was usually shown in with faces looking backward and forward, much like the new year is looking forward and backward at the same time.
