Sanja Festival

Sanja Matsuri is one of Tokyo's biggest and most lively festivals, held annually in Asakusa district at the Senso-ji Temple. It typically takes place in late spring, usually on the third weekend of May. The festival is known for its vibrant and energetic atmosphere, featuring traditional mikoshi (portable shrine) processions through the streets.

During Sanja Matsuri, you'll see thousands of participants, including local residents, carrying elaborately decorated mikoshi shrines, which are believed to embody the spirits of the deities enshrined in Asakusa Shrine. The procession winds through the neighborhood, accompanied by drumming, chanting, and lively festivities.

The festival is also a great opportunity to experience Japanese street food, traditional music and dance performances, and a general celebration of community and tradition. If you have a chance to visit Tokyo during Sanja Matsuri, it's definitely a vibrant and culturally rich event worth experiencing!
